I used to pack so many shoes and sandals when I headed away only to end up wearing a couple of pairs. It has taken me years to get it right and you have to consider your own lifestyle but it is worth the effort to find those pairs that work for you.
- A pair of slides – forget all those complicated sandals, a couple of simple pairs of slides look much more contemporary and you can also wear them to travel, sightsee and in the evening. I love Celine, and you can now find them preloved at Ebay or the The Real Real. I have them in black, white and nude and have worn them non-stop for 3 years. I can also recommend the Nike Benassi Slides . If you cannot get your hands on the Celine slides, I spotted a pair that are so similar on line at Purification Garcia.
2) Flipflops – I have had them all and have now gone back to Havaianas. I have just bought another simple white pair to wear as I had worn out the pair below, after three years use.
A simple leather pair in tan go with everything, I adore these from Ancient Greek Sandals or J Crew have a great pair this Summer and I have also bought a straw pair to wear on the beach from Nomadic State of Mind.
3) Evening sandals – I only have one pair, that I update as they wear out, and this season they are the rope ones pictured below, from Purification Garcia, they go with everything. I also love Valia Gabriel which I have worn Summer after Summer or check out J Crew.
4) A midi heel is the only one I take away. I love Alexander Wang (loads of pairs on the Outnet) and have fallen in love with a pair from Paul Andrew. However, the reality is, with cobble stones and fake tan I would recommend a pair from Dune called the Miami and they are on sale at the moment. They are the perfect height and now at £35 so you won’t mind if the heel gets nicked.
This is what I pack and it can get me through a summer. In the past I have got diverted and yes, I do have other pairs in London, but on holiday the ones I have listed above have stood the test of time!
Keep colours simple and materials as natural as possible, it is really a case of getting the pieces that suit your lifestyle and stick to it.
