These shoes are made for walking…

This is often the topic of conversation between myself and my friends.  We don’t want to wear trainers all the time yet our feet are so spoilt by wearing them that you regret putting on that ‘other’ shoe before you get to the end of your road!

I have bought and sold so many trainer ‘alternatives’ and now I am more realistic.  Trainers are fine most of the time but where I can, I do try and reach for something else.

I  dabble with my brown loafers and I have a pair of navy ones too which I wear if I need to look a bit smarter.  It is like breaking a habit though, you have to persevere.  You don’t have to spend a fortune – there are loads of preloved Gucci and Chanel loafers on Etsy, for example, and I prefer them to the newer version.

I have waved goodbye to white trainers.  Unless you wore them before they were trendy, I didn’t, if you are in your mid 40’s or older it may be time to consider something new.

Dresses with trainers, a past staple, is also a trend that I am also trying to leave behind as I think it is time for me to smarten up.

For dresses, I think a small kitten heeled pair of laced ankle boots look great.  I have seen this trend re-emerging over fashion week – this trend has been around before and I picked up a pair of preloved last week.  Just search for lace up kitten heel boots.  I have added what I have found below to give you some inspiration.  I am now hunting down a pair of the Saint Laurent kitten heels, they were hot a few years ago so you can pick them up quite reasonably on eBay.

I also spotted a pair at Marks and Spencer, I tried them and they look best in black and the suede is  also lovely and they are really comfortable.  These boots are a great shape to wear with skirts or dresses and cropped jeans.

Lepetto is one of those brands that was really popular a few years ago but I had forgotton about them.  However, as I looked around for brands that offer truly comfortable shoes they popped up on my internet search.  I adore the pair below and am busy trying to track them down to try on in London.

ATP are experts at making comfortable ankle boots and I have the pair below.  However, I wish I had bought them in black or burgundy as the python is harder to wear.

Rochas – another tip from my friend Shanaz, is a brand that does the best evening shoes, and you can often find them reduced on Farfetch.

Then, I also love my ankle length Uggs when it is cold, nothing even comes close.  I prefer the shorter length as it elongates your leg and go for the waterproof option and you will get more wear.  Look at the Kristin as it is waterproof.

I still love the Saint Laurent Babies and check out the Dune take on the block heel which is again beautifully made, it is called the Olyvea.  I popped into Clarks to take a look at the boot called the Kelda and it really is a great boot.  The Former is best in black the latter best in grey.

I think brands like Dune, Clarks and M&S are a better bet than a lot of the highstreet for comfort and we all know if boots and shoes are not comfortable we will soon be back in our trainers!  I like to invest in my shoes, so I tend look for designer brands preloved, I am so much more careful as I have wasted so much money on uncomfortable shoes that have languished unworn.

Wishing you all a great week

Love
