I want to formally apologise for my past dalliances with lurid colours and outlandish clothing!
Facebook keeps regurgitating old pictures and I want to hide! Instagram is the devil when it comes to colour, bloggers use colour to get more likes and comments, often at the expense of taste. It’s like using kids or dogs in your photos, it gets more engagement, but in the ‘real world’ crazy colours are, for over 40’s (hate to be ageist) to be avoided.
Our hearts are drawn to dresses and colour but the reality is jeans, great sweaters and t-shirts as well as an investment blazer and pair of flats is where we need to be stocking up on and the odd great dress.
In the last weeks we have dealt with blazers and jeans but this week I have been trying on piles of t-shirts to give you a cross section of affordable ones to buy now. Invest in a great cashmere cardigan (check out Ebay as you can get high-end brands for the same price as Uniqlo). I’ve added my search which is for a navy one, and wear under your Spring coat until it gets warmer.
H&M are leading the way in well priced t-shirts. Let’s be honest, they are not going to last more than a season, but I do love the shape. For a v-neck check the one below from H&M, it is £8.99 and a lovely loose but not oversized fit; I took my normal size.
I adore a rounder neck and this one from H&M is a steal at £3.99, i can’t see the white one online but they had loads in store.
I have become obsessed by Banana Republic. They have some great t-shirts, like the one I am wearing below, I think these will wash better and the sizing is very generous.
I adore American Vintage for vests – the one below is sublime and and these last for ever.
Other Stories is another brand that always does one great t-shirt. I haven’t had a chance to try on the one below but I adore the shape.
The reality is you have to try on, I have no boobs so what suits me wouldn’t suit someone else but you really don’t have to spend a fortune on t-shirts, as they should be sold or binned once they start to grey, sag or look tired. Nothing lifts an outfit like a box fresh white t-shirt ! Avoid t-shirts that cling or are too figure hugging as they are guaranteed to grab the most unflattering part of our bodies and you just won’t feel comfortable. I like to recommend loose but not oversized !
